MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT

We have pleasure in announcing the 1st Brazilian Congress in Electromyography and Kinesiology and the 1st National Meeting of Myotherapy Procedures, promoted by the Piracicaba Dental School (FOP/UNICAMP) and the Brazilian Society of Electromyography and Kinesiology (SOBEC) with the theme “Electromyography Applied to Health Sciences”.

For the first time in Brazil, researchers and clinicians from several centers of excellence in Electromyography of Brazilian and International universities will meet to exchange experiences and present papers to our community, which is imperative to consolidate this important specialty in the areas of health.

The aim of the event is to transmit knowledge of normal muscular function, muscular dysfunction and musculoskeletal pain, to divulge the importance of Kinesiologic Electromyography and its application in Dentistry, Medicine, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Speech Therapy, Physical Education, Sporting Medicine and other areas.

The program will consist of conferences, courses, symposium, presentation of original research and clinical studies in the area and workshops. In addition, there will be an exposition of equipment and accessories for electromyographic practice, which will enable professionals to make direct contact with manufacturers internationally renowned for updating and modernizing their equipment.

The Pre-Congress theme "Muscular pain” will be debated by renowned specialists in the area. Furthermore, subjects will be addressed, which are of great interest to physical educators and those who study Sporting performance, interested in measuring the musculature of high performance athletes, and rehabilitation of muscular lesions.

The Program envisages the presentation of Free Themes and Panels on Processing the EMG signal, Kinesiology, Virtual Reality, Robotics, Electrodes, Neurophysiology, Motor Unit, Postural Analysis, Human Performance, Muscular Fatigue, Musculoskeletal Alterations, Temporomandibular Dysfunctions, Muscular Pain, Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, Occupational Medicine, Sporting Medicine.

We believe that the event may stimulate the awareness of researchers and clinicians about the need for improving technical-theoretical education in kinesiologic electromyography as well as the importance of improving the quality of assistance provided for musculoskeletal pain in our country. The city of Piracicaba is one of the largest sugar/alcohol industrial complexes in Brazil. It has campuses of three of the most important Universities in the country, UNICAMP, USP and UNIMEP and other Higher Education Institutions, in addition to having an intense social and cultural life. The famous Piracicaba river that crosses the city, is one of its many tourist attractions.
